It is your fault

In life, everyone needs to take ownership of the things they do right or wrong. Are you a great parent? Be proud of that. Are you an inconsiderate husband? Then take ownership of it and be better to your lady!

Taking responsibility for your health, weight, and overall physical condition is no different. If you gained 50 pounds in the last ten years, it is your fault. If you are out of shape, it is your fault. Sure, you may have an underlying medical issue, but so do many other people who succeed in losing weight, taking care of their health, etc. You may have a busy schedule, but so do many of our clients. You may have this or that going on, but you know what, so does everyone else.

Excuses, excuses, excuses

We have heard many excuses during our time working with others. People blame family time, work schedules, moving (yes, moving), getting older, other people not supporting them, and many, many other excuses.

To the people stating them, the excuses seem like valid reasons. We always see a way to make things work. Excuses are simply a convenient reason to not do something due to a person's lack of motivation. Some clients, potential clients, or other people have gone years without taking care of their health—in some instances 40+ years! In all that time, a person could have made better choices; now they get to suffer the consequences of their actions.

Every day you have the ability to do something better for your health. For example, you can:

  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator

  • Skip the donuts

  • Take a healthy lunch instead of buying from the food truck

  • Walk for a half-hour after work instead of sitting in front of the TV

  • Play outside with the kids instead of watching them play

  • Be mindful of how much food you put on the plate

  • Skip some of the 12 beers

  • Buy healthy food options at the store

  • Choose whole grains

  • Eat fruits and vegetables

  • Stretch while watching TV

  • Do air squats while watching TV

  • Do push-ups while watching TV

The list could go on. Excuses about time, kids, work, and other barriers are just that, excuses. There are little things you can do every day that will lead you to improved health, fitness, and body composition. You have to want it bad enough.

You are in control

If you are someone out there putting in work and taking care of your health, keep up the good work. If you are not, stop making excuses and either do something about it or just own up to the fact that you're just too lazy to make a change.

You are in control of your life. Whether it is health and fitness, relationships, work, school, or something else, it's time to get off your butt and do something, or it's time for you to stop making excuses and complaining, because nobody wants to hear it.
